Site-Specific Installation
Ocean Embrace (2025) marks a decisive turn in the collaborative practice of Jônatas Chimen and Maria Cosatto, where the ocean becomes both passage and threshold. Conceived as an imagined journey across space and time, the installation unfolds through a restrained vocabulary—oceanic blues, reflective surfaces, and subtle spatial interruptions that invite introspection. This passage extends into an upstream return through the Paraná and the Amazon, where water operates as both origin and instability, holding together promise and loss, belonging and estrangement. Narrative recedes in favor of a sensory engagement, from which emerges a reconfigured locus amoenus—contingent, fractured, and charged with possibility. Anchored in its site-specific context, the work functions as a virtual conduit between Paris and the dispersed geographies of the artists’ diasporas, expanded through short films by Brazilian and Argentine artists accessed via QR codes.
